Short answer
Most published fatwas, including the ones we cite below, classify fixed-time binary options like those on IQ Option as not permissible (haram), mainly because of gambling (maysir) and excessive uncertainty (gharar). IQ Option's own position and its account options are set out below, so you can weigh both with a scholar you trust.
This is a summary of published rulings, not a fatwa. Ask a qualified scholar you trust about your own situation.
What IQ Option says
IQ Option offers an Islamic account in around 20 countries. You activate it through the Islamic account link in your profile after registering; IQ Option has announced a one-time $1 fee for it. The account is swap-free and adds a selection of halal stocks and digital options tied to halal assets. IQ Option's own guide argues that these digital options, traded responsibly through the Islamic account, can be considered permissible, while acknowledging that many scholars view binary options as haram. It does not name a Shariah board or scholar behind the account.
Why many scholars consider binary options haram
Gambling (maysir, qimar)
Each trade has only two outcomes: you win a fixed payout or lose your whole stake, and one side's gain is the other side's loss. Nothing is bought or owned; you are betting on a price movement.
Excessive uncertainty (gharar)
The result depends entirely on where the price is at a set moment, often seconds or minutes away. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited transactions based on this kind of uncertainty (Sahih Muslim).
No real asset
The International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Resolution 63 (1/7)) ruled that options contracts may not be traded, because what is sold is neither an asset, nor a usufruct, nor a financial right that can be exchanged for money.
Forex and CFDs at IQ Option
IQ Option also offers forex or CFD trading. Leveraged CFDs raise further issues: overnight swap charges (riba) and selling what you do not own. A swap-free label removes only the interest, not the other problems.
What about Islamic or swap-free accounts?
Some brokers market Islamic or swap-free accounts. Removing overnight interest deals with riba, but a fixed-time binary option has no overnight interest to begin with: the problem is the gambling structure itself. Darul Ifta Birmingham states that 'halal' binary options accounts are still impermissible.

Halal alternatives to consider
- Buying Shariah-screened shares or ETFs outright and holding them, so you own the asset.
- Sukuk and Islamic investment funds overseen by a Shariah board.
- Currency exchange settled on the spot, for a real need rather than speculation.
Check any product with a scholar or the provider's Shariah board before you invest.
Frequently asked questions
Is IQ Option halal?
Most of the fatwas we reviewed say no: they treat binary options as gambling (maysir) with excessive uncertainty (gharar). IQ Option's own statement and account options are summarised above. Ask a qualified scholar about your own case.
Does IQ Option have an Islamic account?
Yes, in around 20 countries: activate it from your profile after registering. It is swap-free and includes halal stocks and digital options on halal assets. IQ Option names no Shariah board behind it, so check with a scholar you trust.
Are binary options haram in every madhab?
The rulings we reviewed, from Hanafi muftis, Islamweb's fatwa centre and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, reach the same conclusion. We are not aware of a recognised fatwa body that permits fixed-time binary options.
What should I do with profits from binary options?
Scholars commonly advise keeping your original capital and giving away the profit from impermissible transactions to charity, without expecting reward. Ask a scholar how this applies to you.
